Intercollegiate Athletics

• A sport played at the collegiate level for which eligibility requirements for participation by a student athlete are governed by the NCAA or NAIA, whichever is applicable, in accordance with College membership. Per board policy 3710.
• Sports offered at the Intercollegiate Athletics level are:
  • Baseball
  • Basketball – Men
  • Basketball – Women
  • Beach Volleyball
  • Cross Country – Men
  • Cross Country – Women
  • Football
  • Golf – Women
  • Soccer – Women
  • Softball
  • Track and Field – Men
  • Track and Field – Women
  • Volleyball

College Club Sports (Elevated Programs)

• A sport played at the collegiate level and funded by the College for which eligibility requirements for participation by a student athlete are not governed by the NCAA or NAIA. College Club Sports do not include student organization club sports established under Policy 3300 and receiving student activity fees. Per board policy 3710.
• Sports offered at the College Club Sports level are:
  • Esports
  • Rugby – Men
  • Rugby – Women

Auxiliary Programs (Elevated Programs)

• A program that competes and/or performs at the collegiate level and is funded by the College for which eligibility requirements for participation by a student athlete are not governed by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) or National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) regulation and oversight is provided by the Athletic Program. Per board policy 3710.
• Programs offered at the Auxiliary Program level are:
  • Cheerleading
  • Dance

Recognized Student Organizations (Club Sports)

• A group of students joined together in pursuit of a common purpose, guided by a constitution or charter, and officially recognized by the College pursuant to this policy.   RSOs are distinct and separate entities from the Colleges. Per board policy 3300.
• Sports offered as a Recognized Student Organization level are:
  • Archery
  • Baseball
  • Bowling – Men
  • Bowling – Women
  • Disc Golf
  • Shotgun Sports
  • Soccer – Men
  • Softball
  • Ultimate Frisbee
  • Volleyball – Women
  • Wrestling – Men
  • Wrestling –  Women

Any requests made by, or on the behalf of, a student, student organization, club program or group of students representative of Wayne State College for a sport or program to be considered for sponsorship as an intercollegiate varsity sport will be submitted to the Athletics Director (AD).  A request is defined as any formal or informal inquiry submitted to a Wayne State College administrator, coach and/or staff member, either in writing or verbally, seeking the process for a sport or program to be considered for intercollegiate status.
