Rugby is in the top 10 most popular sports globally and is a team sport played with 15 players on each side. Played on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end, the objective is to score points by carrying the ball across the opponent's goal line to score a try, or by kicking the ball through the opponent's goalposts. Rugby is characterized by its physicality, strategic play, and continuous flow, with players engaging in tackles, rucks, and mauls to gain possession and territory. The sport is known for its emphasis on teamwork, endurance, and skill, making it a dynamic and exciting game to play and watch.
At WSC, Men's and Women's Rugby is an Elevated Sport, and unlike the club sports it is a part of the Athletics Department along with the NCAA Varsity Sports. The program has a full time Head Coach, along with an increased operating budget to cover most travel, lodging, and meals.
