| By:
The Wayne State College women's rugby team travelled up to Vermillion to play the South Dakota Coyotes, in the season opening game. WSC was able to walk away with a convincing 62-19 win to start 1-0 on teh season.
The Wildcats opened the scoring in the seventh minute when the forwards stole the USD ball at a scrum, and a couple of passes later saw scrumhalf Esme Sacarias score in the corner.  This was to be the first of four tries from the Sacarias whose quick thinking, and exceptional support play proved to be a challenge for the USD team all day.
By halftime, the Wildcats garnered a massive lead, and WSC began to score at regular intervals. After emptying the bench, the Coyotes got some consolation tries from their all-star player Maurina Street, but teh Wildcats' effort was enough to bring home the win.
Head coach Bryn Chivers later named Esme Sacarias, who scored four tries, freshman Sydney Thomas with two tries.and gave special mentions to Grace Cruise and Malori Swenson, whose strong running constantly put the USD defense on the back foot, players of the game and set the tone for the win.
