The Wildcat Esports program finalized their competing rosters for the Fall 2021 ECAC Esports season. Tryouts lasted two weeks with two sessions per game title, providing Head Coach
Nick Sutton with the time needed to analyze the incoming talent. Sutton analyzed 120 players who were all competing for a spot to represent WSC in this upcoming season.
"This semester's tryouts brought in the most students we have seen since we launched the program last year", Sutton said. "All together we are fielding 96 players for a total of 30 teams across 11 different game titles. After gaining numbers like this we have seen a 92% increase! Exponential growth like this for our program is very swiftly making WSC one of the bigger schools participating in the ECAC league. Fielding this many players, we plan to have a dominating presence across the board. The new talent from the freshman class has added finishing touches to our teams and I cannot wait to see them compete." - Sutton
Not only are the teams preparing for the ECAC season, but also gearing up for some other major collegiate tournaments such as Overwatch Collegiate Homecoming & Collegiate Hearthstone United in Stormwind. WSC Rocket League is striving to qualify for CRL (Collegiate Rocket League) on October 3
rd. Last week they took down Midwest powerhouse Wichita State University 4-0 in a best of 7 scrimmage, proving to be a lethal roster on the field. Captain of the Varsity team
Dion Coffey shared his excitement about this upcoming season.
"Our Rocket League team has come very close to qualifying for CRL these last two seasons and it's only the beginning of something big. Having faced multiple well-rounded teams in scrims and tourneys with this team, I can gladly say we are very confident. With the new addition of mechanical genius Zekers and the return of our defensive anchor Flush, it's time we qualify for our spot to be considered one of the best collegiate carball teams. #GoCats"Â -Dion
This coming semester the ECAC league is now offering a new title for students to compete in. New to the ECAC is Rainbow Six Siege, a 5v5 tactical shooter. As well as Rainbow being offered to the league, Wayne State is now fielding players for Madden, Fifa, and NBA2k. With the new games being offered we have seen a surge of new players wanting to compete for WSC.
