Women's Rugby gets the sweep In Minnesota

| By:

The Women's Rugby team traveled to the Minnesota Union tournament in Otsego, MN to start their road to gold for the fall season. In a familiar fashion, the Women Wildcat's Rugby team left Minnesota undefeated.  Although they had a shortened schedule due to injuries and forfeits, the Women's team outscored their opponents 80-0. The women's team votes for a "Player of the Match" following each game. Selma Taylor, senior fly half, earned the title of the first game against Winona State University, and Taylor Ference, a senior lock was recognized as the player of the match against University of Minnesota-Mankato. "Selma Taylor- she is the WSC women's captain for a reason. She's an aggressive player with the rugby knowledge and experience to back it up, making her a dangerous asset for our team," said Ference.

Ference, a team captain, had this to say about this weekend games "Our team didn't let another team score. Even so, we can always work on perfecting our defense and being quicker to the rucks. Our team was also great at communicating on and off the field." Communication is big for the Wildcat Women's Rugby team. Taylor said, "Our back captain, Selma Taylor, and scrum captain, Maisey Clausen, do a great job of planning practices to be engaging and fun for everyone. And behind the scenes are the seven hardworking ladies on our executive board who communicate daily to create schedules and handle any issues."

The team returns to the pitch on Saturday September 17 in Warrensburg, Missouri, to face the University of Central Missouri. The weekend after (Sept. 24) the Wildcats will travel to Lawrence, Kansas, to matchup against the Kansas State Wildcats, the University of Missouri Tigers, and University of Arkansas Razorbacks.
