Dylan Zoucha Honored with Most Outstanding Wrestler, Head Coach Vander Weil earned SWC Coach of the Year

    The Wayne State College men's wrestling team finished as Southwest Conference Runner-Ups for the second straight year as all 14 wrestlers that traveled have qualified for the National Collegiate Wrestling Association National Championships.
    The Wildcats as a team finished with 81.5 points, only finishing behind the Texas A&M Aggies. The Aggies now have won the Southwest Conference for two straight years. 
    While the team accomplishment was outstanding, the Wildcats also performed very well as individuals. Three Wildcats were Conference Champions, including Chase Eggleston (157 lb), Gavin Zoucha (165 lb), and Dylan Zoucha (174 lb).  D. Zoucha was also voted the most outstanding wrestler for the tournament.
    Four Wildcats claimed second place. Those wrestlers were Colby Puck (141 lb), Clayton Harris (149 lb), Mohamed Siidow (157 lb) and Chance Sjulin (165 lb). Third place wrestlers included Lane Barton (141 lb), Landon Templar (149 lb), Anthony Scala (197 lb) and Tyler Dawe (235 lb). Fourth place finishers included Jared Engel (125 lb), Isaac Voboril (174 lb), and Dakota Spann (184 lb). Head Coach Greg Vander Weil was named SWC Coach of the Year. 

    The Wildcats traveled with 14 wrestlers to Arlington, and all 14 have qualified for the national championships, which will be held Thursday, March 9 through Saturday, March 11, in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
