The Wayne State College Men's Rugby team went a perfect 4-0 and are champions of the National Collegiate Rugby 7s National Qualifier held in Wayne, Nebraska, on April 1. The result of this tournament qualified WSC for the NCR Collegiate 7s Championships on April 28, in Washington D.C.
The Wildcats began with two pool play game, the first of which was against Carleton College. The Wildcats upended the Knights 14-5. The second game of pool play came against the Creighton Bluejays. This became another win for the Wildcats after WSC pitched a shutout on the rugby field, 10-0.
The semi-final matchup paired WSC against a familiar in state opponent in the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks. This back-and-forth contest saw teh Wildcats pull away late to win 28-19 to cement their place in the final against Central College. In a tightly contested match, it was the Wildcats who pulled away from the Dutch 19-15.
The Wildcats will be in action on April 29 for the NCR Collegiate 7s Championships in Washington D.C.
