The Wayne State College women's rugby team traveled to Cottage Grove, Wisconsin on Saturday, April 15. The Wildcats went 3-1 on the weekend and took home second place to qualify for the Collegiate Rugby 7s Cup in Washington D.C. on Saturday, April 29.
The first two matchups came against the Ramblers of Loyola-Chicago and Titans of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The Wildcats had no trouble with either matchup, dominating both teams. They beat the Ramblers by 25, 35-10, and the Titans by 22, 29-7.
In the semifinal matchup, WSC went up against the Marquette University Golden Eagles. In the fall/winter season, on December 3rd, the Golden Eagles defeated the Wildcats 17-0 in a National Semifinal to move on to the Championship match. The Wildcats remembered this as it fueled their dominate win over the Golden Eagles in this semifinal, beating Marquette 28-5 to move on to the qualifying final.
This is where the good fortune for the Wildcats ended. The final matchup came against the Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugolds. The Blugolds defeated the Wildcats 35-0. However, the WIldcats still were able to qualify for Nationals as the top two finishers from this qualifying tournament got automatic bids.
