Women's Club Volleyball Takes 11th at MPVC Championships

    The Wayne State College Women's Volleyball club team traveled to compete in the Midwest Plains Volleyball Conference Championships this past weekend, April 1 to April 2, in Chesterfield, Missouri. The Wildcats finished with a 2-3 record and took 11th overall for the tournament.
    The tournament started out with three games of pool play Saturday morning and afternoon. In the pool with the Wildcats were the Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas State Wildcats B team, and the Nebraska Cornhuskers B team. 
    In the first game of pool play against the Wildcats of KSU, WSC commanded a 25-15, 25-20 win to earn their first win. It ended up being the only win for the Wildcats win pool play. Game two was hard fought on both sides, as the game entered a third set, but the Cornhuskers overpowered the Wildcats late to win a three set thriller, 25-23, 23-25, 15-8. The final game of pool play against the Jayhawks was a two set sweep for KU, 25-20, 25-12.
    After pool play, the Wildcats had a game against Washington University in St. Louis to decide who made the gold bracket and who made the silver bracket. The Wildcats ended uo securing their spot in teh gold bracket after a convincing two set sweep of the Bears, 25-13, 25-16.
    The round of 16 matchup put the Wildcats up against a familiar opponent in the Kansas Jayhawks. After dominating set one 25-2, the Wildcats gave up set two to the Jayhawks, 25-18. In the decisive third set, it was the Jayhawks who pulled away with the win in set three 15-12.
    The Wildcats have a week off before competing in the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation National Championships from Thursday, April 13 to Saturday, April 15 in Kansas City, Missouri.
