The Wayne State College women's club volleyball team took a trip to Vermillion, South Dakota to compete in the USD Club Invitational, where the Wildcats walked away with a first place finish. The team finished 4-0 on the tournament and lost only one set.
WSC started out in pool play competition, where they faced off with the North Dakota State Bison's Gold squad and the South Dakota Coyotes B team. In convincing fashion, the Wildcats came away with two sweeps. They beat the Bison in three straight sets 25-13. 25-9. 25-11 and while a closer competition, ran away with another three set victory 25-18. 25-15. 25-23.
The Wildcats were one of the top teams entering bracket play, where they drew the WSC B side team. The two teams battled to a three set thriller, but it was the A side that took the win in the end. The championship match saw WSC match up with USD's A team, and in two straight sets, WSC took home the championship victory.
As for the Wildcats' B team, they took home a third place finish, going 1-1 in pool play and beat the NDSU Green team in the third place game, avenging a loss to the same team in pool play.
After starting the season 4-0. the Wildcats will look forward to their next tournament, where they will look to keep the momentum rolling.
