On Saturday, Nov. 2, the Wayne State College women's club volleyball team traveled to Omaha, Nebraska to take on the field at the Creighton University Invitational. The Wildcats ended up making the silver bracket, where they finished 2nd.
Pool play started out well for WSC, as they picked up back-to-back two set sweeps against the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks and the Wyoming Cowboys. They easily handled the Mavs 25-12, 25-7, and got a little fight from the Cowboys, but pushed them aside 25-21, 25-12.
The final game of pool play came against the host team in the Creighton Bluejays. The Wildcats battled, but ultimately fell in a two set sweep 25-21, 25-19.
The 2-1 record in pool play sent the Wildcats too the silver bracket. Their first opponent was the Nebraska Cornhuskers B team, and in a three-set thriller, the Wildcats pulled out the win 19-25, 25-23, 15-7.
The win sent them to the championship game for the silver bracket against the Kansas Jayhawks B team. This match also needed three sets to determine a winner. In a back-and-forth battle, the Jayhawks proved victorious 27-25, 21-25, 15-13. This gave WSC a second place finish in the silver bracket.
The Wildcats' B team also saw tournament action, going 0-2-1 in pool play and taking home the consolation bracket championship with two set sweeps over the Peru State Bobcats and the UNO Mavericks B team.
