Women's Volleyball travels to Lawrence for West Regionals

| By:
The Wayne State College women's volleyball team traveled down to Lawrence, Kansas to compete in the Midwest Plains Volleyball Conference West Regional tournament from Saturday, Feb. 8.
The Wildcats opened the tournament with pool play. Their first game saw them playing the host team in the Kansas Jayhawks. After losing set one, WSC bounced back and won set two, but couldn't close the game, losing in three sets 25-14, 22-25, 15-8. The Creighton Bluejays also got the better of WSC, winning in straight sets 25-16, 25-21.
The final game of pool play matched the Wildcats up against the Wichita State Shockers, but it was the Wildcats shocking WSU with a dominant two-set sweep 25-7, 25-10.
A 1-2 record qualified WSC for the Silver bracket where they matched up with the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks. The Wildcats easily moved into the Silver bracket championship with a 25-11, 25-19 victory and earned the right to play the Nebraska-Lincoln Cornhuskers. While it was a competitive effort, WSC fell just short 25-23, 25-21.
The Wildcats finished with an overall record of 2-3 and finished runner-ups in the Silver bracket.
The next tournament the Wildcats will compete in is located in Springfield, Missouri, from Mar. 1 to Mar. 2 at the Allison Sports Complex.
