Head Esports Coach, Drew Kurtenbach, is excited to announce that the program will join the Rust Belt Conference through the NACE Self-Select program for the 2026–27 competitive season. The move provides the select esports titles with new opportunities to compete, connect with other NACE programs, and continue growing the esports community at Wayne State College.
NACE Self-Select gives collegiate esports programs the flexibility to select a conference that fits their competitive goals and provides opportunities to compete regularly against other colleges and universities. Through this model, institutions can build new rivalries, strengthen their schedules, and compete for conference and postseason opportunities.
For the upcoming season, WSC Esports will be showcasing Overwatch and League of Legends competition as members of the Rust Belt Conference.
"We're excited to compete alongside institutions that share similar goals and a commitment to growing collegiate esports," said Kurtenbach. "Joining the Rust Belt Conference gives our teams the opportunity to build new rivalries, develop relationships with other programs, and compete against new opponents throughout the season."
Varsity Esports matches are set to begin Sep. 14. Fans can catch all WSC Esports varsity matches live on Twitch throughout the 2026–27 season.
