Wayne State College men's rugby defeated Principia College 28-12 on the road on September 12^th. Wildcats start the season 1-0 while Principia falls to 0-1.
            Marlon Guwuriro scored the first try for the 'Cats, missing the two-point conversion. Ben Donnelly followed up with a penalty kick to put WSC up 8-0 early in the first half.
            Principia College would follow up with a try scored and the two-point conversion being successful to only trail by one point. WSC would go into the halftime break with that one-point lead in the defensive battle.
            "Going into the second half, we started to find ourselves more and our playmakers started to make plays," stated head coach Joe Dao. Donnelly scored another penalty kick to go up 11-7. Guwuriro set up Francisco Rolon for a try and Donnelly would make the conversion.
            After an illegal hit out of the air by the Panthers, the Wildcats were in great field position for Tshidiso Letsoalo to score a try from 60 meters out, improving Wayne States lead to 23-7.
            Donnelly scored the final points for the 'Cats from five meters out to make it 28-7. The Panters would score as time ran out and scored the conversion to make the final score 28-12 in favor of the Wildcats.
            "I think this was a really good first match for the season," said Coach Dao, "Principia tested our team, and we accepted the challenge."
            Wayne State recorded 44 tackles, won 11 line outs, and had 88.9% scrum success in their opening contest. Donnelly was named Man of the Match by Principia College.
            Wayne State is back in action when they host the Creighton Bluejays on September 26^th at 2:00 p.m. in Wayne, Nebraska.
