The men's rugby team was taken to the limit Thursday night against one of the top teams in the country. The Tritons of Iowa Central Community College, a 2-year varsity program, put the pedal to the metal early on and often in the 80-minute match, handling Wayne State College 41-19. In a contest where WSC was a heavy underdog, they strapped up their boots and went toe to toe with ICCC and let them know they can compete with the best. WSC showed flashes of talent and ability, but at the breakdowns is where they struggled as the ball was slow to come out the ruck and handling errors hurt the team as they faced a disciplined Triton team. On a good note, WSC played a lot of their newer players and earned valuable playing time. In the sport of rugby, practices does not quite grasp the speed and intensity of a game and the only true method of learning the game is playing the game.
The Wildcats are now 6-1 on the season. They look to turn it around as they travel to Omaha to take on the Goats Saturday, October 16th.
