Wildcat Men's Volleyball Finishes 12th at MPVC Championships

    The Wayne State College Men's Volleyball team traveled to compete in the Midwest Plains Volleyball Conference Championships this past weekend, April 1 to April 2, in Chesterfield, Missouri. The Wildcats finished with a 3-3 record and took 12th overall for the tournament.
    The tournament started out with two games of pool play Saturday morning. In the pool with the Wildcats were the Southern Illinois Salukis and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
    The first game for the Wildcats came against SIU. In a tightly contested game, the Wildcats battled hard in the late stages of both sets to get a two set sweep against the Salukis, 25-23, 25-23. Game number two against the Huskers did not go as planned, as the Huskers gave the Wildcats a two set loss, 25-17, 25-20.
    Heading into Saturday after after pool play were placement challenge games. The first challenge game had the Wildcats face off against the Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville Cougars B team. Both teams battled, each of them winning a set to force a decisive third set. The two sides went back and forth, and in extra points, the Wildcats won a thriller, 25-17, 23-25, 16-14. The second challenge game pitted the Wildcats against the Missouri Tigers. WSC fell short against the Tigers, losing in straight sets 25-17, 25-16. 
    With the Wildcats results, they qualified for the Silver bracket starting on Sunday. Their quarterfinal game pit them against the Wichita State Shockers. It was the Wildcats shocking WSU in straight sets, 25-14, 25-18. In the semifinals, WSC came face-to-face with the St. Louis Billikens. WSC put up a fight, but ultimately fell short in two sets, 25-16, 25-18. 
    The Wildcats have a week off before competing in the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation National Championships from Thursday, April 13 to Saturday, April 15 in Kansas City, Missouri.
