Baseball Picks Up Series Sweep Over Panthers

    The Wayne State College club baseball team took on the Milwaukee Panthers in the final series of the fall season and came up with a series sweep. With the wins, WSC improves their record to 3-7 on the season.
    Before this series, The Wildcats took on the South Dakota Coyotes on Tuesday, October 17. The Wildcats and Coyotes battled in a high scoring affair, but the Coyotes ended up on top with four runs in the fourth and sixth inning, as teh Wildcats efforts saw them put up three runs in the fifth and seventh, and then one in the ninth, as WSC's efforts fell short. This led the Coyotes to come away with a 8-7 win.
    The Panthers and Wildcats teams took to the field this past weekend on Saturday, October 21 and Sunday, October 22. Saturday featured a doubleheader between these two teams.
    In game one of the Saturday doubleheader, the offense was flying for both sides. The Panthers opened the scoring with four runs in the first and three runs on the third to take an early 7-0 lead. The Wildcats were not deterred, and plated a whopping 10 runs in the fourth inning. The Panthers retook the lead after plating two more runs in the each of the next two innings, making the score 11-10 going to the bottom of the sixth. It was here the Wildcats' bats exploded again for eight more runs in their half of the sixth inning, making it 18-11. The Panthers pushed across three runs in the seventh, but the comeback effort fell short, with the Wildcats taking game one 18-14. WSC's bats were a combined 16-for-34 with 12 RBI's and eight walks.
    Game two saw less offense, but still saw the Wildcats take home the win. All five of the WSC runs were scored throughout the first three innings, as teh score sat at 5-1 after three. The Panthers plated two runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth, but that was all they were able to muster before the game got shortened due to darkness, with the Wildcats taking home the 5-4 win.
    Game three took place the next day on Sunday, and WSC was abe to take home the win in another tight contest. The Panthers were able to open the scoring in the fourth inning with two runs. Needed a spark, the Wildcat got the offense moving in the sixth, bringing one run to the plate. After shutting down the Panthers in the seventh, down to their final three outs and down one run, the Wildcats got their spark. With two outs, the Wildcats were able to drove home the winning run, as WSC walks it off 3-2 for the series sweep.
    The Wildcats close the fall season at 3-7 and will be back in action this upcoming spring at the annual NCBA Swing Into Spring Tournament.
