Christensen's no-hitter highlights club baseball's opening spring series

| By:
The Wayne State College club baseball team is back in action for the spring season, as they traveled to Tilton, Illinois to battle against the Illinois Fighting Illini in a three-game series.
The series kicked off with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 6. Game one of the doubleheader was controlled by WSC from start to finish. The bats were hot early, as the top of the first saw the Wildcats plate three runs and the top of the third added four more. The Wildcats added two more runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to score 11 runs total for the game. Garrich Phelipa was the offensive star, going 2-for-2 while driving in three runs and drawing two walks. He also rounded the bases for two runs of his own.
However, the story of game one was the pitching of Dylan Christensen. The senior through a six inning no-hitter, allowing only a measly two walks while striking out eight batters. Christensen was also one of the lead hitters in game one, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and drawing one walk. He also came around to score once.
Game two of the doubleheader saw the Illini start with the hot bats. All ten of their runs came in teh first four innings; four in the first and two in each of the next three innings. The ten runs were scored on just six hits and two Wildcats errors. WSC woke up the offense in the third to score three runs, and they added three more in the fifth. It was not enough to battle back against Illinois, seeing as no Wildcat was able to get more thna one hit, and the Illini took game two 10-6.
The series finale on Sunday, April 7 was also kicked off by the smoking offense of Illinois, as the Illini brought home six runs in the opening frame. WSC battled back in third to close the gap, scoring three runs. The Illini added some extra insurance in the bottom half of the frame, driving in two more runs and later adding one more in the fourth. The Wildcats plated one run in each of the final three innings, but it wasn't enough to overcome Illinois, as they took game three 9-6, despite a 4-for-4 performance from sophomore Drew McIntosh, and the series two games to one.
