Baseball Struggles in Season-Opening Series Against Raiders

| By:
The Wayne State College club baseball team opened their season this past weekend on Saturday, September 30 and Sunday, September 1 against the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders. The Raiders not only took the series, but all three games against the Wildcats, who start their season 0-3.
Saturday opened the season for both squads with a doubleheader. Game one saw the Raiders shut out the Wildcats 5-0. MSOE scored the majority of their runs from the second to fourth innings, one in the second, two in the third, and one in the fourth, before tacking on an extra insurance run in the seventh. The Raider defense and pitching only allowed the Wildcats to muster up three hits.
Game two of the doubleheader saw the Wildcats jump out to an early 1-0 lead after one inning of play. The Raiders quickly stormed back, scoring one run in each of the next four innings. The Wildcats did the same after not scoring in the second, so the score was tied at four apiece after five innings. The Raiders took the lead in the sixth 6-4 and held on for the win. The Wildcats had good performances from junior shortstop Kaden Ritz, going 4-for-4 with two runs scored and senior center-fielder Jordan Oviedo going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Game three of the weekend on Sunday saw the Wildcats jump out to a 1-0 lead after two innings of play, but the Raiders quickly took the game back, with two runs in the third, seven runs in the fifth, one run in the sixth and three runs in the seventh to take the series sweep with a 13-3 win.
The Wildcats are back in action at the Flint Hills Classic in Lawrence, Kansas from Friday, October 6 to Sunday October 8.
